Chilapata Wildlife Sanctuary - an eminent tourist spot in north-Benga is located in the heart of the tourist circuit of Eastern Dooars, in the foothills of the Bhutan-Himalaya.
Chilapata earned it's importance as a corridor between Jaldapara National Park and Buxa Tiger reserve.
The diversity of flora and fauna of Chilapata is mainly nurtured by the Torsha and Bania river, flowing through the forest and carrying tons of alluvial soil.
It's a home and passway for Asiatic and Borneo elephants, Indian Gaur, Single horned Rhino , Leopard , Samber, Spotted Deer, Hog Deer, Barking Deer, Wild boar, Monkey , 180 varities of Bird, approximately 400 varities of Butterflies and Moths, 22 species of reptiles and insects.
Some rarest of the rare Orchids, Trees and Plants are also a matter of great attraction for many visitors - visiting Chilapata. Sightings of an Elephant, Rhino and herd of Indian Gaur are mostly assured, during the forest Safari by Jeepsi or by Elephant.
Guests are permitted to enter the Reserve from 16th September to 15th June of any year.
Entry-tickets are issued by the forest department, government of West Bengal.
